How to Visualize Test Change Scores for Coaches
By Mladen Jovanovic on 09/11/2013Coaches are not interested in making inferences to a population, statistical significance, nor mean values (P<0.01). What they are interested are individual athletes, their reactions to training and what are practically significant and meaningful changes.

Real-Time Fatigue Monitoring using Metabolic Power and CP/W’
By Mladen Jovanovic on 26/10/2013Over the years there were couple of tries to monitor fatigue real-time in team sports, such as soccer. The most simple one was to use heart rate (HR) data and see if the players were getting tired by checking if the HR was getting higher and higher. Long story short – this doesn’t work and I have no clue…

UPDATE: Percent-based to velocity-based converter 2.0
By Mladen Jovanovic on 17/09/2013I have updated Percent-based to velocity-based converter to include conversion from velocity-based to percent-based approach using load-velocity profile and %1RM-max reps profile. This is important since it allows coaches to get easier ‘grip’ on velocity-based approach and how it could be used and converted.Here is the screen shot

How to Track 1RM Without Actually Testing It?
By Mladen Jovanovic on 02/09/2013Introduction – There are two main methods for estimating 1RM of an exercise: (1) to build up to true 1RM lift and (2) to estimate 1RM from reps-to-(technical)-failure with sub-max weight using various formulas and tables.

Optimizing Groups for Small Sided Games (SSGs)
By Mladen Jovanovic on 23/08/2013In the following video I will show you how to: a) Calculate normal scores for any test/statistic (percentiles & z-scores) and the difference between them; b) Calculate composite scores using weighting factors and normal scores; c) Use one great Excel tool – SOLVER to provide optimized solution for groups;

Analyzing Time-Series of Individual Data – Part2: Using Harmful/Trivial/Beneficial Chances
By Mladen Jovanovic on 10/08/2013Just a quick update – after a comment by John Fitzpatrick (@JFitz138) on the use of Will Hopkins’s approach of calculating chances I decided to give it a shot. For a Typical Error (used together with SWC to calculate chances) I used SD of the Rolling Average.

Analyzing Time-Series of Individual Data
By Mladen Jovanovic on 09/08/2013If you haven’t been living in a cave for the last couple of years, you definitely noticed an increase in data collection, data mining and visualization. HRV tracking, jump output tracking, estimating 1RMs from velocity-load data, game statistics, performance analysis, various testing statistics, body weight, Run Keeper, Run Tracker, and all that quantified-self movement.

Some Great Findings and Ideas From Velocity-Based Strength Training
By Mladen Jovanovic on 07/08/2013Some great findings and ideas from velocity-based strength training – I have been thinking more and more about velocity-based lifting recently as a method of prescribing load and volume for an individual. I have wrote couple of blog posts and article on this topic that you might want to read first:

MMA Training Classification Using Bondarchuk System
By Mladen Jovanovic on 21/06/2013I decided to publish the following tables that I have created to guide my planning/programming for one friend of mine and MMA athlete that asked for my advice last year.I have utilized Bondarchuk approach in classifying the drills for each training component (and goal) as I did in my Physical Preparation for Soccer manual and Periodization Confusion article.
