    Mladen,

I have run through your 8-week soccer pre season articles and enjoyed the series. I am wondering how you would plan a condensed version in 5.5 weeks, with a myriad of friendly matches and different fitness levels. If I were to receive players on week 1, and first regular season game is mid week 5 (32 days), would you agree with the following logic?

    Week 1 – Adjustment
    Week 2 – Loading
    Week 3 – Impact
    Week 4 – PreCompetition
    Week 5 – Competition

…Or would you break up the weeks into smaller macrocycles (4 day)

    Day 1-4 = Adjustment
    Day 5-8 = Loading
    Day 9-12 = Loading
    Day 13-16 = Adjustment
    Day 17-20 = Loading
    Day 21-24 = Loading
    Day 25-28 = Impact
    Day 29-32 = Competition

Thanks for any thoughts that you have
    John

    Hi John,

Thanks for sharing. I would use friendlies as a microcycle “threshold” and plan around it. First couple of round could be done as a simple training “drill” without any special tapering, but you would want to slowly enter the in-season rhythm, especially taking into account such a short time.

    Hi Mladen,
I have alredy done all parts of this art series. You put speed/explosive movement 48h after friendly game. I’m confused because the highest fatigue is 48h after the game, isn’t? So do you think that in pre-season this solution could be could even for semi-pro players and youger players (U17-U19)?
Do you think that recovery process could be faster if I increase anaerobic threshold with my players?

    Thanks a lot

P.S. sorry for my english 😉

    Hi Michael,

I would generally move it later, true. But with some friendlies the load is lower – i.e. 1x45min
