Lesson 4: Block Periodization
Let’s assume that your linear periodization calls for the following phases: hypertrophy, strength, power, each lasting for 3-4 weeks. How is this sequential approach to planning different from the Block periodization? This is exactly what Mike Tuchscherer oughts to answer in this video (see below).
Mike takes Vladimir Issurin’s approach for defining Block Periodization, which involves Accumulation, Transmutation and Realization blocks. Mike does outstanding job in differentiating this from the linear approach (alluded above), as well as pointing out the strength and weaknesses of doing so (see below).
