We are witnessing tremendous increase in measuring technologies, and it seems that if you are not measuring and monitoring you are not training. Unfortunately (or luckily) a lot of clubs cannot afford 30 units GPS systems, OmegaWave, Dexa scan and you name it. Being on the budget (or no budget), what can you do to be better than nothing?

This approach helps me solve some of the planning/programming conundrums and provides pretty simple framework that could be applied to other domains as well (e.g. HIT conditioning). I also touch on Dan John’s Bus Bench vs. Park Bench analogy, which I think is a game changer concept.

At this stage I am looking for some structure in my training, but cannot be mentally bothered to follow overly prescriptive powerlifting/powerbuilding template (like 5/3/1, Juggernaut, Starting Strength, etc.). I wanted something that is mentally refreshing, but it still gets me training hard and produce the results. Something that Dan John would call “Punching the clock” workout. The result...

In year 2008 I wrote series of articles about Planning the Strength Training. Back then, my “philosophy” (or should I say model of reality?) was (and I believe still is) highly influenced by Mark Rippetoe’s books: Starting Strength and Practical Programming. It made perfect sense and it represented reasonable model of the strength training process as a whole. Years…

In this video I am expanding on the idea of using multiple set and reps schemes across movement patterns under undulating umbrella. For example, how can we utilize undulating approach with the goal of developing hypertrophy for the upper body and strength for the lower body?

Minimum Viable Product (MVP) is a concept from “Lean Startup” methodology. I believe it has a lot to offer to training problems, hence the change in the name to Minimum Viable Performance. I have already written about MVP in my Agile articles and videos, but wanted to give this concept some extra attention.

In the previous video I explained differences between “traditional” and “undulating” approach to strength training planning. In this video I will show you how you can set it up in Strength Card Builder, which you can get for FREE.

In this video the following topics are covered: 1) The difference between “undulating periodization” and “undulating programming”; 2) The difference between variations and progressions (and similarities); 3) Different combinations of workouts/exercises and set and rep schemes; 4) Uses of “randomizations” (covering the notion that “random workout” is NOT just a “out of your ass” approach to programming, but could...

Grand Unified Theory of Sport Performance I have already spoke about Grand Unified Theory (GUT) in Random Thoughts on the New Frans Bosch Book and More blog post, but wanted to give this topic a bit more thought in this video.
